The Tools of the Trade Grant Application deadline has closed for the 2023-24 academic year. Please check back again in the summer of 2024 for a potential opportunity to apply for 2024-25 grant funds.
The Edward Arthur Mellinger Educational Foundation and Carl Sandburg College Foundation doesn’t want the cost of tools, workwear and other equipment required for an education to prevent you from reaching your career goals.
The Tools of the Trade success grant is awarded to offset the cost of the following items through the Carl Sandburg College Bookstore:
- Equipment and/or supplies to a currently enrolled part‐ or full‐time student enrolled in the Automotive Technology Program at Carl Sandburg College, including:
- Program required tools and tool storage
- Uniforms and personal protective equipment (PPE)
Award
A limited number of $1,500 Tools of the Trade Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until all funds are disbursed for the 2023-2024 academic year.Eligibility & requirements
- Applicants must be enrolled in the Carl Sandburg College Automotive Technology Program.
- Tools of the Trade Grants are for academic expenses that may affect a student's ability to continue their education in the Carl Sandburg College Automotive Technology Program.
- The grant does not cover tuition expenses.
- If awarded, recipients must maintain enrollment in the Carl Sandburg College Automotive Technology program for at least one, 16-week semester and be in good academic standing and make academic progress as defined by Carl Sandburg College's standards with a minimum cumulative 2.0 grade point average (GPA) and a minimum cumulative 67% completion rate for attempted credits for at least one semester.
- Prior to the end of the academic year, recipients must complete an impact survey.
- All fields must be completed on the Tools of the Trade application form, or the committee will decline the application.
- Note: If you have applied for financial aid, please make sure to attach a copy of your award notification in your Tools of the Trade application.
