Find Books & More

Use the  Carl Sandburg College Library catalog to find out if a book, ebook, audiobook, DVD, or other types of items are in one of the libraries at Sandburg (Galesburg and Carthage locations are included). For questions or to report a broken link in the catalog, please e-mail or call 309.341.5257.

Follow the instructions below to find books and other physical items in the catalog. For a full overview of available tools, I-Share requesting, and tips for searching the catalog, see our Getting to Know Your Sandburg Library Catalog documentation. 

1.     Type your search.

3.     Click on a title to see more information.

4.     Write down the call number (Ex. QK617 .M66 2017). Item will say "Item in place; Loanable" if it is available. 

5.     Be sure to note the location. This example is shelved in the regular stacks at our Galesburg location, but some items will only be available at our Carthage location.

6.     Bring your items and your Sandburg ID card to the Library desk to check them out. If you do not want the items that you pulled from the shelf, please leave them on a nearby table or the front desk for library staff to shelve.


If you do not find the items you need in the Sandburg Library catalog, or if you cannot determine the location of the item, please ask a library staff member for assistance. You may repeat the search on  I-Share  to search from 89 other Illinois libraries. 


The Sandburg Library participates in state and national interlibrary loan systems, which makes obtaining materials from other libraries possible. Consult a staff member with questions about any aspect of the interlibrary borrowing service.


The I-Share catalog includes the resources of 89 Illinois libraries that belong to CARLI.To request or renew items, log in with your Sandburg e-mail and password, just as you would log in to your mySandburg portal. Watch the video below for a full tutorial on I-Share requesting.

The Carl Sandburg College Library offers two ways to borrow materials from other libraries, I-Share and OCLC through To choose the best method of delivery, please read about the choices below.



Interlibrary loan deliveries are currently limited to Tuesdays and Thursdays. Because of this and other factors affected by the pandemic, students should expect delays in delivery times and plan accordingly if they have a research project due.

Students are strongly encouraged to use Sandburg Library's eBooks and online journals in lieu of physical material availability. For assistance, contact or see our eBooks and Searching Scholarly Databases LibGuides. 

Below is a video tutorial for how to request I-Share materials through the library's online catalog.

If you need assistance with the catalog or would like staff to place the request for you, please contact You will need to provide the following information:

  • Book title
  • Author
  • Edition, if applicable
  • Your contact information

If a book is not available in the I-Share catalog, contact so staff can request the item for you from another library outside of I-Share.



Look up the journal title first in EBSCO or other Databases.

Articles from journals and newspapers that Sandburg does not have a subscription to must be requested on OCLC through contacting Materials arrive, on average, in 1-3 business days.

Information to include in your email request:

  • Journal title
  • Article title
  • Journal date (day, month, year, etc.)
  • Journal volume and issue number
  • Your contact information
