Crocheting for Beginners - Carthage
Tuesday, Nov. 3 • 6-8 p.m.
Come learn to crochet at Carl Sandburg College. The class is $30 and all supplies will be provided. The class will include instruction on the chain and shell stitch, and the basics needed to make a scarf or a blanket.
Stained Glass Holiday Ornaments – Carthage
Tuesday, Nov. 10 • 6-8 p.m.
A local artist will teach how to create art with stained glass holiday ornaments. The class is $30 and includes all necessary supplies.
Wreath Making – Carthage
Tuesday, Dec. 8 • 6-8 p.m.
No crafting experience is necessary to make your own holiday wreath. The class is $40 and includes all supplies you need for the class.
Valentine Cookie Decorating – Carthage
Tuesday, Jan. 12 – 6-8 p.m.
Join us on the Carthage Campus to learn how to decorate Halloween sugar cookies with royal icing. All supplies are included in the $30 cost for the class.

Kids on Campus Careers
Saturday, Sept. 12 • 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Cost: $40
Carl Sandburg College is expanding its Kids on Campus line-up to add weekend classes in career exploration. Our inaugural class will be Sept. 12 for youth ages 11-15 who are interested in exploring the aspects of a career in education.
Lunch is included, and each student will receive a bag of school supplies any future teacher would need.
The class will be held at Carl Sandburg College's Carthage Campus.
Kids on Campus: The Top-Secret Holiday Gift Shop
Saturday, Dec. 5 – 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Cost: $40
Sign your children up to work with our elves to create their own custom-made holiday gifts. Through artistic classes, those who participate will create three gifts, their own customized wrapping paper, and wrapping lessons. Lunch will be provided.
Kids on campus mini sessions
Carl Sandburg College has planned a series of mini-Kids on Campus sessions in fall and spring for elementary school students in the Carthage Elementary School District. The sessions, planned for Oct. 2026-April 2027, will be held on Friday afternoons on School Improvement Days in the school district. Each session is $30, runs from 12:30-4 p.m. each day, and includes two classes and a snack. The sessions are for students in kindergarten-sixth grade.
Friday, Oct. 9 – Pumpkin Painting and Diamond Painting – Students will make pumpkin art using acrylic markers and will start a diamond painting kit, which teaches fine motor skills, number finding and hand-eye coordination.
Friday, Jan. 15 – Beaded Jewelry and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. History – Sessions will include making a beaded bracelet and a workshop on the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Friday, Feb. 11 – Making Valentine’s Day Cards and the History of President’s Day – This week’s offerings will include making handmade cards for Valentine’s Day and a lesson on the history behind President’s Day.
Friday, April 9 – Fun Science – Join our chemistry teacher to participate in several fun experiments in the College’s laboratory.
Friday, April 16 – Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Cards and Gifts – Participants will create cards and gifts for family members.
Friday, April 23 – May Day Baskets – This session will include making May Day baskets for participants to put on the doorsteps of their neighbors, friends and family members. Each child will make at least five baskets, and we will have candy to put inside. This event will also include a brief history of the celebration of May Day.
SAVE THE DATES – This year’s traditional Kids on Campus event, for children who have completed kindergarten through sixth grade will be held Monday, June 21-Friday, June 25 on Carl Sandburg College’s Carthage Campus.
This year’s Kids on Campus Careers, for youth ages 11-15, will be held Monday, July 12-Friday, July 16, also on Sandburg’s Carthage Campus.
Day Trips
Cantril & Harvestville Farm
Thursday, Oct. 1 - Departing from Carthage and Galesburg
$75 - all costs associated with the trip are included, with the exception of shopping.
The day starts with shopping at Dutchman's Store, a Mennonite marketplace in Cantril, IA. The trip then moves on to Harvestville Farm in Donnellson, IA, where the group will enjoy a catered lunch, and classes on fall floral arranging and painting pumpkins with markers.
The trip leaves from Galesburg at 7 a.m. and from Carthage at 7:30 a.m.
Kerstmarkt - the Dutch Christmas Market in Pella, Iowa

$75 includes round-trip transportation. Lunch and shopping are on your own.
Buses leave Galesburg and Carthage at 7 a.m. and leave Pella at 2 p.m.
Experience the magic of the holiday season at the Kerstmarkt Dutch Christmas Market in Pella, Iowa. The market is set up on the Molengracht Plaza near Pella's downtown square. The day trip will also feature an opportunity to shop the Dutch community's unique boutiques, bakeries, and meat markets.
Snowman’s Reindeer Farm in Canton, IL – Dec. 8
Join us for a day trip to Snowman’s Reindeer Farm in Canton, IL Tuesday, Dec. 8. Billed as a “family-run farm where you can get up close with real reindeer,” this trip will feature an encounter with the animals, including new baby reindeer, “Tinsel,” and a tour of the property. After the tour, the group will have lunch at Monical’s Pizza in Canton, including pizzas, salads, breadsticks and drinks. Tickets are $65 and includes transportation, the farm tour, animal interaction and lunch. Buses depart from the Galesburg campus at 8 a.m. and from the Carthage campus at 7:30 a.m.
